If you are a Starbucks coffee lover, brace yourself for a nearly “Starbucks free-zone” while traveling in Vietnam. We have been told that there is only one Starbucks coffee shop in Vietnam, located in the south in Ho Chi Minh City. Vietnam has its own traditions of coffee making and whether or not Starbucks will be able to gain solid traction among the Vietnamese people remains yet to be seen.
In the meantime, those who wanted to grab a cup of freshly brewed Starbuck’s coffee were able to do so at a presentation organized by CityU and one of our recruitment partners in Hanoi – FPT-Mega – for prospective students interested in studying at City University of Settle.
When our friends from FPT contacted us with the idea of organizing the meeting with students in the form of a coffee shop, we could not resist bringing a bit of Seattle to this event – genuine French roast Starbuck’s coffee. Coffee from Seattle (brewed in the traditional Vietnamese way) was a great icebreaker and provided a wonderful backdrop for our conversation with students about studying and living in Seattle. It felt like we were meeting at one of the numerous Starbucks shops somewhere in Wedgwood. We only wish the weather had been a bit cooler that day in Hanoi!
